Interactive SSM Viewer

The viewer renders the cohort mean rib cage as a surface and deforms it with the statistical shape model.

  • PC Explorer – one slider per retained principal component, scaled in cohort standard deviations. Moving a slider shows the deformation that mode encodes; the ±2σ end-points of the leading modes are shown as static figures in the manuscript.
  • Metadata Explorer – choose sex and smoking status and set age, height, body mass, body fat, and pack-years. The geometry generator (Methods §2.8.6) predicts the PC scores for that profile and reconstructs the corresponding cage; a banner warns when the profile lies outside the range covered by the cohort.
  • Synthetic sample – draws a cohort-typical rib cage for the current metadata profile (the generator’s prediction plus a random draw from the shape variation that demographics do not explain) and overlays it on the current shape; click again to re-roll.
  • Reset to mean returns every control to the cohort mean.
Note

The viewer is a self-contained HTML/JS bundle. The Plotly library is loaded from cdn.plot.ly on first view, so an internet connection is required.
